Wooden blinds

Wooden blinds

An admirable and versatile natural material, namely wood, was used in the production of the first blind. Wood has not diminished in popularity for centuries, including sun protection. Wood warms internally and to the touch, and with its random drawing, different from piece to piece, it represents a specific and powerful phenomenon of being - uncertainty. It balances the opposite pole of cold, accuracy and countability of concrete, metal or plastic. This is especially welcome.

Wood and its useful properties

Wood is a remarkable material and therefore has remarkable properties. They are shown in Table 1. In addition to the well-known thermophysical properties of five basic and to a large extent also characteristic building materials, the last column shows the coefficient of thermal conductivity and in μm2 / s. It expresses the ability of the heat wave to spread in the building material to which the coefficient relates. Among the five representatives of different material circuits (metal, insulation, concrete, masonry, wood), wood has the lowest coefficient a = 0.219 μm2 / s.

In other words, the heat wave spreads the slowest through wood. A look at the table further shows that the temperature wave spreads the fastest through aluminum with a = 113 μm2 / s. Both materials are used for the production of lamellas of shading technology. However, the speed of spreading of a temperature wave is not the same as the propagation, more precisely the intensity of heat transfer through a solid. This is determined by the thermal conductivity coefficient lambda, λ. Of the five materials, aluminum with the highest coefficient λ = 273 W / (mK) is the best, followed by concrete, wood, TI-blocks and the last is thermal insulation, which conducts heat the least.

Wooden blinds - a successful, efficient and natural solution

Wood is increasingly perceived in modern interiors as a natural element that gives the house warmth and coziness. The fact that the wood in the interior is not exposed to the effects of year-round weather also has its "weight". Logically, it is also used in internal sun protection, where wooden blinds have become a trend.

Technical advantages

Of all the materials, wooden blinds best inhibit the temperature wave created by the sun's rays by heating its surface. If the sun illuminated the blind intermittently, ie in the manner - ON - OFF - ON - OFF, the temperature response on its inner side would have a smoothed shape with a significantly lower temperature amplitude and a noticeable delay. In the case of a thin aluminum blind, the response on the inside would be almost without delay, without smoothing and without attenuation. The thermal damping effect of wood results from its value of the coefficient of thermal conductivity a = 0.219 m2 / s, which is almost 500 × smaller than in the case of aluminum (a = 113 m2 / s). The slats of a wooden blind (unlike aluminum) conduct heat much less and before the heat wave front reaches the interior side, its energy (and therefore also the temperature) is largely absorbed by the mass of the slat.

Endless possibilities

Clean lines, design innovations, modern trends combined with manual techniques of processing exotic woods. The result is a unique shielding element - a wooden blind. The traditional natural material gives endless possibilities for the surface treatment of blinds, which distinguishes them from conventional products. This is already in the area of Bematech's operations.

The slats of wooden blinds, which this company produces, are made of quality exotic wood - African willow Abachi, which guarantees high quality and long life. In the collection you can find more than 100 types of slats, different colors and finishes. Thanks to this, wooden blinds can be conveniently matched to virtually any interior, including rooms with ceramic tiles. The uniqueness of wooden blinds from Bematech can be found mainly in the new BE ONE, BE WOOD and BE NOBLE series.

Choice of environment

For materials with different wood structure, it is better to choose areas that are not too damp. Higher humidity and temperatures can cause the slats to deform. Therefore, we do not place this type of blinds, for example, in bathrooms, swimming pools, saunas, etc. A more durable coating can be used to improve durability. More durable coatings are also worth using due to mold, which then leads to other side effects.

Interesting facts and technical specifications

Wooden blinds are available in horizontal versions. Horizontal blinds are in a maximum width of 3,600 mm and a height of 3,500 mm. It is possible to control wooden blinds manually or by motor. Bematech offers lacquered lamellas in RAL or NCS shades. The RAL color swatch is a worldwide standard for the color scale, used mainly in industry, whose purpose is repeatability and obtaining exactly the same color shade. Wooden blinds are often decorated in beige, gray, brown or burgundy colors, which evoke a soft and natural look.

In contrast, NCS is a very carefully crafted color swatch, based on the evaluation of a large number of subjective expressions of various people from science, architecture, psychology, fashion design on the one hand, and objective color measurement on the other. So it is not just a large set of numbered shades. The NCS system is based on six basic colors - white, black, yellow, red, blue and green. The blinds can therefore be tuned to any shade of your choice.

Conclusion

From an aesthetic point of view, wooden blinds are a unique and top-quality interior accessory that can fundamentally change the "face" of a room and at the same time evoke an atmosphere of kindness and harmony. Wooden blinds are also an important part of the thermal protection of rooms and have a positive effect on the feeling of so-called thermal comfort. The inner surface of the wooden blind does not copy the outdoor temperature extremes transmitted by the window and maintains the temperature close to the interior. The blinds in the retracted state thus contribute to the stabilization of the indoor temperature and lower energy consumption for heating or cooling in summer and winter.
